The Quest for ‘Intelligent Infinity’ in the Age of Ascension

“Enlightenment” is a word often expressed as an ideal by spiritually-minded people, but it can also be vague and overused. A better alternative: consciousness of “Intelligent Infinity.” What is today called “Ascension” means access to this state by many more of us than in the past.

We are living in an era when age-old limitations have been transcended. A century ago, science was on the verge of banishing the spirit through a depiction of the universe as a wind-up toy. Now the picture is entirely different.

Nuclear and quantum physics have opened windows on the infinitely small, such as the Higgs bosun (a.k.a., the “God-particle”), so tiny that only the traces of its existence can be identified. An example of the potency of the infinitesimal is the computer microchip, whose miraculous capabilities transform electrical impulses into the vastness of the internet.

On the scale of the infinitely large we have the universe of endless galaxies as revealed by the Hubble space telescope and other instruments, one with parallel worlds, multiple dimensions, wormholes, holographs, and space portals. Leading the search for life in outer space is NASA’s Kepler space probe, which is constantly finding more planets beyond our solar system capable of supporting beings like us.

But if we confine our perceptions to just the outer world, the significance of the human individual shrinks to nothingness, as the existentialists of a generation ago lamented. Fortunately our experience tells us otherwise. There are times when being alive acquires a transformative significance that cannot be denied, as shown by “peak experiences” of diverse kinds.

It is then that we discover an inner universe that is sensed to be as expansive in its own way as the outer one. Combined with the most advanced discoveries of science, such intuitions point us toward a reality seemingly saturated with cosmic intelligence, not merely one of deterministic materiality or accident.

American mystic Joel Goldsmith (1892-1964) wrote:

“Somewhere in consciousness there lies a land undiscovered, a land not yet revealed by religion, philosophy, or science. I know that it exists, for it continually pushes itself into my awareness. I know that when it discloses itself, it will change the nature of mankind: wars will be no more, and the lamb will lie down with the lion. This spiritual kingdom, this inner world, is as real as the world we see, hear, taste, touch, and smell—if anything, more real. What we become aware of through the senses eventually changes and disappears, but this inner world, these spiritual glories that are revealed to us, these spiritual lights with whom we learn to tabernacle—they never disappear.” (A Parenthesis in Eternity, 1986)

We live in the “space age.” But, as Goldsmith intimates, the term should encompass both inner and outer space. Naturally we begin to wonder whether consciousness can be enhanced at will and whether a permanent state of elevated being can be sustained. The West had long viewed the spiritual path as available to monks and recluses, but as the various schools of yoga burst on the scene with the arrival of mystics and gurus from the East, it seemed likely that many more people could gain some degree of spiritual awakening, including those in ordinary walks of life. The inner horizons have expanded even further through research involving spiritual science, near-death experiences, the law of attraction, and past-life regression.

Our ideas of what was possible soared again when sources claimed to reside in other worlds or dimensions began to be contacted through channeling. These sources included beings alleged to arise from extraterrestrial realms, along with angels and archangels, Jesus Christ, the Divine Mother, and even God himself. To those who scoffed, adherents were quick to point out that the world’s religions all claim contact with divine beings. If it happened in the past, why not today? Examples are A Course in Miracles (1976) and the more recent Love Without End: Jesus Speaks (1999). The former speaks of awareness of infinity as the “holy instant”; the latter as arising through “innocent perception.”

I did not invent the term “Intelligent Infinity.” It comes from a supposed extraterrestrial source called “RA,” channeled by a group involving Carla Rueckert and others who today operate an institute called L/L Research out of Louisville, Ky. The channelings took place in the early 1980s and are published in a five-volume series called The Law of One.

According to RA, humankind’s consciousness became covered with a veil, hiding from us the realities of the spiritual world. “This veil then occurs between what we now call the conscious and the unconscious mind,” says RA. (Law of One 79.23) The veil also prevents us from remembering our past lives or having full awareness of the workings of our physical bodies.

But there has always been the possibility of “piercing the veil.” Today, says RA, there are many tools and techniques available to accomplish this, especially meditation. Among the most effective, says RA, are ones that can be utilized by groups and communities of seekers who practice together. I would also include the tantric sexual practices available to couples.

But the veil can be penetrated only if a person learns to love. This means becoming awake in the spiritual heart, what yoga calls the “green-ray” chakra. Says RA: “The penetration of the veil may be seen to begin to have its roots in the gestation of green-ray activity, that all-compassionate love which demands no return. If this path is followed, the higher energy centers shall be activated and crystallized until the adept is born. Within the adept is the potential for dismantling the veil to a greater or lesser extent that all may be seen again as one.” (Law of One 83.18)
RA is saying that it’s the loving awareness of everything in existence as being in fact the one Creator to which the green-ray chakra can open us. Consciousness of Intelligent Infinity may then follow.

Today’s striving for higher consciousness is ignored or even feared by the bureaucracies entrenched within financial, corporate, governmental, educational, and religious structures, because they know that when people begin to see with the eyes of Intelligent Infinity, the pretensions of these ego-based dinosaurs will fade away. But that’s the way it goes; humans must be free. The purpose of these structures is to serve life and the living, not dominate them.

It’s my own conviction that each of us needs frequent experiences of Intelligent Infinity to lead happy, sane, and fulfilled lives. Ascension, which is here, now, on our planet, offers this. We can choose to be part of it or stagnate, as said another channeled source, in the “sink of indifference.” But we’ll then miss out on the greatest adventure in human history.
